The Mercedes G-Wagen also began life as a military vehicle, created at the behest of the Shah of Iran in the mid 1970s. Updated for the first time in its 40-year-plus history, the new G is an improvement in almost every way over the old one. So much so that it was given the accolade of a 2019 Automobile All-Star.
