The newly developed, back-illuminated Exmor RTM full-frame 12.1 megapixel effective CMOS sensor offers up to twice the readout speed of the α7S II, plus high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. An extended colour filter array provides accurate colour reproduction, while focal plane AF phase detection significantly improves autofocus stability and precision. All this contributes to excellent image quality. The BIONZ XRTM image processor is eight times more powerful than the previous processor. Latency has been minimised and real-time processing for videos and photos has been significantly improved. The processor provides real-time AF processing, image recognition and image quality adjustments, and also handles data transfer, user interface and other camera operations. The 12.1 megapixel full-frame configuration enables high sensitivity with low noise throughout the camera's sensitivity range by optimizing the output signal from the sensor. The standard ISO range is 80 to 102400 and can be extended to 40 to 409600 (80 to 409600 for video). The impressive dynamic range with 15 steps allows beautiful, authentic images without overexposed highlights. Together, the camera's high sensitivity and wide dynamic range give you greater creative freedom when shooting. 4K full frame shooting at 120 frames per second16 with autofocus is possible thanks to the high-speed readout capabilities of the new image sensor in conjunction with the newly developed powerful BIONZ XR processor. This high 4K image quality, with full pixel readout without binning, provides clear, post-processed slow motion (up to 5 times slower than real time)17 and bokeh effects typical of full frame cameras - all with smooth and highly accurate autofocus. Despite the compact size of the α7S III, it offers an impressive range for creative ideas. The camera can take internal 4K shots with 10-bit image depth and 4:2:2 colour sampling using either Long-GOP or All-Intra compression. This allows for even finer colour gradation and gives you video with ultimate HDR realism while maintaining natural gradation. That's true editing freedom.
